What do you want your business to be about? That’s what you say in your mission statement. For example:
Apple
"Apple continues to lead the industry in innovation with its award-winning desktop and notebook computers, OS X operating system, and iLife and professional applications."
Nike
"Crush Reebok."
Wal-Mart
"To give ordinary folk the chance to buy the same thing as rich people."
Walt Disney
"To make people happy."
Your mission statement should be short and to the point, say what you want to achieve, and set the tone for your business. For example:
- Apple is serious about leading the industry in innovations.
- Nike has a sense of humor about beating the competition.
When you think about Disney, do you see happy people? When you think about Apple, do you think innovation? How do you want people to see your business in their mind’s eye? Think about that as you write your mission statement.
